b2Evolution

Well, here I am again trying a new blog software. Hopefully soon I'll find one I really like. Wordpress was very nice, and still in the running for sure. Just can't see myself choosing it if I have never even tried anything else. Just my nature I guess.

I wasn't really happy with blogger, mainly because I like to have total control over the software on my host, at least as close to total control as possible. I also didn't like the idea of having my data stored on google's server instead of my own hosts server.

Also, I'm looking for a new host for caseyphillips.net. Currently I have it forwarding to the host that peench.com resides on. What I'm looking for is a Linux reseller's account with PHP & MySQL, so if any of you have any recommendations, I'd love to hear about them. I'm using a windows host for it right now because I thought I'd do some ASP.NET stuff, but I do that all day at work, and want something different for my personal time. Not to mention Linux hosts are usually much cheaper and come with more features.

Yeah, I'm sure you guys are going to get tired of me changing this thing all the time, but I always have a hard time making a decision. I keep thinking there could be something better. Wordpress and b2Evolution seem comparable in features and are pretty much identical to install. In fact b2e was slightly easier because you didn't have to edit a config file, instead it had a form to enter the database information. Other than that, they were both a breeze. B2e does allow you to have multiple blogs on one install, each blog having multiple categories, which Wordpress allows only one blog per install with multiple categories. I guess the deciding factor will probably be which is better supported and which is more easily customizable.

I'd like to give Simple Post a try as well. Isn't it developed by one of Tim's friends?

This b2Evolution seems pretty cool. I think it looks better than the WP blog that your running on peench.

James, are you running the Simple Post blog on fantasyfootballblog.net?

Yeah, registering and logging in are purely optional, and is supported by both b2e and wordpress. I just wanted to try out the feature. Also, they both allow you to customize everything to your hearts content.
