Spamity Spam Spam!

Ok, this is really getting ridiculous. It started off as one or 2 every now and then. Now it's almost every day. Online casinos, viagra pushers, porn peddlers, left and right spamming the hell out of my blog. I'm talking 10 or more in a day when the spammers are really doing their jobs.

Has anyone else had this much of a problem with spammers? Is there any effective way to combat them? I've been banning domains and deleting comments (some of which crash my browser just loading up. . .), but they keep coming in ever-increasing numbers. It is bad enough getting this shit in email, but I at least have tools to fight the bastards on that front. And I know, 10 a day isn't that horrible, but it seems to me they're just picking up momentum, and this could really snowball into a real ass-pain-causing problem.

And I'm not a big fan of ass-pain.

well.. it is because you are using a mass used blog/cms... you really need to add in sometype of user identification, like the whole 'type what you see' that alot of sites are going to, you might even check out b2's addons, you may find one already made...

or you could switch to the simple post app my friend wrote, it is what me, dubz, my brother all use and we don't have that prollem at all...

10 a day, uhh. Wait till you start getting 100+ a day. gets to where bloging is no fun.

like tim said checkout plugins for the blog software you are using. when i upgraded my wordpress the spam tools was one of the first things I checked out. its virtualy eliminated the spam comments i have to deal with.

nature of the beast... I HATE SPAM too.

i used a few plugins for WP 1.2 and it's done a pretty good job. i've thought about adding some additional stuff but it's not been too bad.

so, there u have it... get plugins... and when the spammers figure out workarounds... get new plugins haha it's fun i tell ya!!

Thanks guys, glad to know I'm not alone. I've done the plugin thing, that's probably why I only have the 10 a day. I wish I had stats as to how many attempts there were.

if it gets bad enough.. I would go to a different system. I for one, have had not one spammer (knocks on wood) in my lifetime. But the system I use isn't the norm. Howgrown is the answer. If possible.
